COMMUNITY BASKETBALL LEAGUE

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Structured weekly coaching sessions that teach the basketball fundamentals, step-by-step.  Ideal for beginners through to intermediate.

This session will teach your child how to correctly dribble (with both hands), while introducing the basic stances, offensive and defensive footwork, balance, co-ordination and spatial awareness necessary to progress up the skills ladder within the sport.

You will also learn how to correctly pass the ball and be introduced to correct shooting techniques (both stationary and in movement).

Towards the end of the term, coaches begin to focus on integrating newly acquired skills into competitive game play.

At the end of the term, your child's progress will be assessed during a grading session where they can earn either a 1 or 2 Star Award, ready for progression upwards the the following term.

LONDON'S BIGGEST GRASSROOTS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

- WHERE TOMORROW'S STARS PLAY TODAY! -

The Community Basketball League (CBL) is the biggest grassroots basketball competition in London with over 2,000 registered players representing North, East, West, and South London.  Our league provides organised competitions and playing opportunities for a wide range of abilities from early-stage beginners through to the future stars of our game!

The CBL currently provides competitions for both boys and girls across the following age groups: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20, and Under 25.

The league is a registered non-profit organisation that was originally developed from the success of the 2012 Olympic Legacy program, the London School of Basketball, which set out on a mission to get more young Londoners playing basketball more of the time.  With the huge influx of new players shooting hoops across the city, we developed the CBL to cater to the demand for more competitions and more quality opportunities to play and enjoy the game in its purest form.

We provide skills-appropriate games for newly formed teams who are just beginning their basketball journey but also offer competitions for more experienced teams who are looking for something more challenging without the heavier time and cost commitments of the National League.  We keep costs of participation as low as possible, by pooling our leagues into a 'Central Venue' format, which takes care of all of your facility, referee, and table official costs for the entire season and playoffs for a one-time registration fee.

Our aim is to provide easily accessible, enjoyable routes into organised basketball competition, putting an emphasis on delivering a positive playing experience so all those who play in the CBL are inspired to stay in the sport for the long-term.  With the continued success of the league and development of the players, teams, and coaches - we have evolved to also now provide a platform for the emerging stars across the city, to compete and showcase their skills to coaches at the next level.

We currently run 2 divisions in each age category to accommodate the right level of competition for all teams and players who are interested in playing in the CBL.  Experienced players and competitive teams should apply for Division 1 consideration, while new teams with less experienced players who are perhaps entering organised competition for the first time should apply for the Division 2 competition.

We also run a CBL Cup competition, which is an open-entry 'knockout' tournament for grassroots teams across the capital.  Teams do not have to play in the regular CBL season to participate, which works well for teams who cannot commit to a full season of games but still want to provide the fun and excitement of tournament experience for their players.

We are always welcoming of new players, coaches, teams, and volunteers so if you'd like to join the CBL or you have any other queries, please visit the official CBL website or get in touch with the CBL here: CONTACT US.
