COHENEL’s three point shooting guard, Joseph Powell, has been recognised by coaches across the league and awarded ‘All-ABL’ Second Team status, for his fine form this season.

The ABL is in the midst of their end of season awards, which recognise the top players from all across the country.  The ABL is an invitation only competition that comprises of 40 the top teams from across England, split into four conferences.  Colleges that have shown high levels of performance are invited to compete in the ABL, which runs a weekly competition for elite athletes throughout the academic year.  To be recognised as one of the top players from the division is high, but deserved, praise for Powell, who established himself as arguably the top long-range shooter in the English Academies Basketball League, this season.

Powell nailed 42.6% of his three point attempt this season, officially placing him 3rd on the top 10 list of three point shooting proficiency across the league.  However, he made more three pointers than any other player in the country over the course of the season, staking his claim to being the top marksman in the league from beyond the arc.  He also had several high-scoring outbursts, such as his 32 point game against Capital City Academy, in a COHENEL victory.  He played a big role in propelling the Warriors to the ABL Final Fours and worked himself into becoming an integral piece of coach AJ Roberts rotation.

“Joseph is a flame-thrower, no question.  He can shoot the ball from beyond the arc and once he gets it going, can put up points in a hurry.  I’m glad the league and other coaches recognise his ability, because he deserves it.  His shooting and scoring have been big for us this year.”

– AJ Roberts

Powell is joined on the Western Conference All-ABL 2 Team by Karyiek Dixon (Oasis), Israel Olalekan (Capital City), Joseph Alimi (Capital City) and Michael Ademola (St Charles).
