LSB DEVELOPMENT FAQS

ANSWERS TO PARENTS MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED DEVELOPMENT CAMP QUESTIONS

About Skills Development Camps
What are LSB Skills Development Camps?

LSB Skills Development Camps are structured basketball day camps designed to help young players improve their fundamental basketball skills, technical understanding, confidence and overall enjoyment of the game.

Players take part in coach-led drills, skill stations, small-sided games and competitive play, with a focus on developing key areas such as ball handling, passing, shooting, finishing, defence, footwork, movement, spacing, decision-making and game understanding.

What makes LSB Skills Development Camps different?

Our camps are built around development, confidence and positive coaching. We aim to create a high-energy learning environment where players feel welcomed, challenged and supported, whether they are new to basketball or already play regularly.

The LSB approach combines technical teaching, active repetition, coach feedback, competitive games and wider life-skill development. Players are encouraged to listen, learn, communicate, compete positively and take responsibility for their own improvement.

What skills will my child work on?

Each camp is designed to cover a broad base of basketball fundamentals. Depending on the camp theme, venue and age group, players may work on:

  • dribbling and ball control;
  • passing, catching and decision-making;
  • shooting technique and shot preparation;
  • lay-ups, finishing and footwork;
  • defence, stance, movement and positioning;
  • rebounding, spacing and movement off the ball;
  • team play, communication and game understanding;
  • competitive 3v3 and 5v5 game situations.

The goal is for every player to leave camp with improved confidence, better habits and a clearer understanding of how to keep developing after camp.

Are the camps suitable for beginners?

Yes. LSB Skills Development Camps are suitable for beginners, developing players and more experienced players. Beginners are introduced to the basic skills and rules in a positive, step-by-step environment.

Our coaches understand that new players may be inconsistent at first. We focus on clear teaching, encouragement, repetition and feedback so that players can build confidence while learning the game properly.

Age, Ability & Groups
Who are the camps for?

LSB Skills Development Camps are for boys and girls aged 7–16, unless a specific camp page states a different age range.

Some specialist camps may have their own eligibility criteria, age range or experience level, so parents should always check the relevant camp booking page before booking.

Can 6-year-olds attend?

Our standard minimum age is 7. In some circumstances, we may consider a 6-year-old if they have previous experience in a coaching or sports-camp environment, or if they are attending with an older sibling.

Any exception must be agreed by LSB before booking. The decision will be based on the child's maturity, confidence, listening ability and readiness to take part safely in a group coaching environment.

Will my child be out of their depth?

No. Players are grouped by age, size, experience and ability wherever possible. Coaches assess players during the early drills and activities, then organise them into appropriate working groups.

Typical groupings may include:

  • Beginner — players with limited experience or little previous coaching;
  • Intermediate — players with some experience who have been coached before;
  • Advanced — players who train or compete regularly and are ready for more detailed teaching.
Can my child be grouped with a friend or sibling?

You can let us know about friend or sibling requests when booking or before camp starts. We will do our best to accommodate reasonable requests, especially during arrival, breaks and team activities.

However, player safety and development come first. If players are significantly different in age, size or ability, they may need to be placed in different coaching groups to ensure the best learning environment.

Booking & Payment
How do I book a camp place?

Camp places should be booked through the relevant camp booking page. Each booking page sets out the camp venue, dates, age range, timing, price and payment options.

Your child's place is only secured once the booking form has been completed, payment has been received and LSB has issued confirmation.

When is my child's place confirmed?
No place is reserved before payment is received.

A booking is confirmed once the registration form has been completed, the required payment has been received and LSB has issued written confirmation.

Places are limited and camps can reach capacity, so early booking is strongly recommended.

Can I book one day instead of the full week?

Where day bookings are available, they will be shown on the relevant camp booking page. We recommend booking the full camp where possible because places are limited and full-week players get the most complete development experience.

If you book for one day and later want to add more days, we will try to help if spaces remain available. Additional days cannot be guaranteed.

Do you accept childcare vouchers?

No. LSB Skills Development Camps do not currently accept childcare vouchers.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Our cancellation and refund policy is set out in full in our Coaching Services Terms & Conditions. Parents should review the full terms before booking.

  • Cancellations made 7 days or more before the course start date may be eligible for course credit or a partial refund in line with the Terms & Conditions.
  • Cancellations within 6 days are not normally eligible for refunds or credits, except where the Terms & Conditions allow for injury-related credit with medical proof.
  • Once a camp has started, refunds or credits are not issued for missed sessions, illness, holidays, injury or changes in personal circumstances, except where specifically allowed by the Terms & Conditions.
Times, Arrival & Collection
What time does camp start and finish?

LSB Skills Development Camps typically run from 9:00am to 2:00pm, unless the specific camp booking page states otherwise.

Registration normally opens from 8:50am. Players should be collected promptly at 2:00pm.

Do you provide wraparound childcare?

No. LSB Skills Development Camps are not wraparound childcare provision. Parents remain responsible for their children before registration opens and after the published collection period ends.

Registration normally opens shortly before camp starts, and sign-out takes place at the end of the camp day.

What happens if I am late collecting my child?

Parents should collect players promptly at the published finish time. Late collection can create additional staffing and venue pressures, so late fees may apply.

  • Up to 15 minutes late: no charge;
  • 15–30 minutes late: £15 late fee;
  • 30–60 minutes late: £45 late fee;
  • 60–120 minutes late: £90 late fee.

If you are unexpectedly delayed, please contact the on-site camp lead as soon as possible.

Who can collect my child?

Children should be collected by a parent, legal guardian or an authorised adult named by the parent or guardian. If collection arrangements change during the day, please notify the camp lead or LSB team in writing where possible.

For safeguarding reasons, staff may ask for confirmation before releasing a child to an adult who was not expected at collection.

Can my child leave camp by themselves?

Older players may be permitted to leave independently only where this has been clearly authorised by a parent or guardian and accepted by LSB. This must be arranged in advance and should not be assumed on the day.

LSB reserves the right to require collection by an adult where we believe it is appropriate for safeguarding, venue or operational reasons.

What to Bring
What does my child need to bring?

Players should bring:

  • suitable sports clothing;
  • basketball shoes or supportive trainers with a non-slip rubber sole;
  • a refillable water bottle;
  • a small snack for the break;
  • any required medication, clearly labelled and declared to staff;
  • a basketball, if they have one.

Please make sure all personal items are clearly named.

Does my child need to bring a basketball?

Players are encouraged to bring their own basketball, especially for individual skill work. However, LSB will have a reserve supply of basketballs available where needed.

Having a personal basketball is helpful because it allows players to continue practising after camp.

What food and drink should my child bring?

Players should bring a refillable water bottle and a small snack for the scheduled break. Suitable snacks may include fruit, an energy bar, a sandwich or another light option that helps them refuel during the camp day.

Parents are responsible for providing any food and drink their child needs. Players should not share food, especially where allergies may be present.

Can my child bring valuables or a mobile phone?

We recommend that players do not bring unnecessary valuables to camp. If a player brings a mobile phone, it should be kept safely in their bag and used only when appropriate.

LSB cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal belongings unless this is caused by proven negligence. Players are responsible for looking after their own items.

Daily Programme
What does a typical day at camp look like?

A typical camp day includes registration, welcome and warm-up, skill development stations, group coaching, technical teaching, a snack and hydration break, competitive games, review points and a camp warm-down.

Players are normally introduced to the coaching theme of the day, taught the key techniques, given time to practise, and then encouraged to apply those skills in small-sided games or full-court play.

Do players compete in games?

Yes. Games are an important part of the camp experience. Players may take part in 1v1, 3v3, small-sided games and 5v5 competition depending on the age group, venue, camp numbers and coaching theme.

Competition is used to help players apply what they have learned, develop confidence, improve decision-making and enjoy the game in a positive environment.

Are LSB Skills Development Camps overnight?

No. LSB Skills Development Camps are day camps. There is no overnight or residential provision for standard Skills Development Camps.

Parents should check the specific camp booking page for the confirmed dates, venue, age range and daily timings.

Can parents stay and watch?

Parents are normally asked to sign players in, leave them with the coaching team, and return at the scheduled collection time. This helps players focus, settle into their group and build independence during the camp day.

Where venue capacity and safeguarding arrangements allow, parents may be invited to watch part of the final session or end-of-camp games. This will be confirmed by the on-site team.

Venues & Facilities
Where are the camps held?

LSB Skills Development Camps are delivered at selected school, academy and sports facilities across London. Each camp booking page will confirm the venue name, address and dates.

Parents should check the relevant booking page and pre-camp communication for arrival instructions, entrance points and any venue-specific information.

Do venues have toilets, changing facilities and parking?

Our camp venues are selected because they are suitable for basketball coaching and youth sports delivery. Toilet facilities are available at each venue.

Changing rooms and parking arrangements may vary by site, so parents should check the specific camp details before attending.

What happens if there is a venue issue or camp disruption?

If a venue issue, emergency, extreme weather event or external disruption affects delivery, LSB will contact parents using the details provided at booking.

Where LSB has to cancel or amend a camp, any refund or credit position will be handled in line with the published Terms & Conditions.

Health, Safety & Safeguarding
Are the coaches qualified?

Yes. LSB camp coaches are appointed to deliver a safe, structured and technically sound basketball camp experience. Coaches and staff are vetted, and qualifications are held on file and verified in line with the LSB delivery model.

Our coaching team is responsible for creating a positive learning environment, organising players safely and helping each player develop within their ability level.

Does LSB have insurance?

Yes. LSB's delivery arrangements include appropriate insurance cover for camp activity, including public liability, employers' liability and professional indemnity cover as set out in the published Terms & Conditions.

Participation in sport carries inherent risk, and parents should review the Terms & Conditions before booking.

Do you have a safeguarding policy?

Yes. LSB is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children and young people participating in our sessions.

All camp delivery operates in line with the LSB Safeguarding Policy, and safeguarding-related concerns can be raised through the appropriate LSB safeguarding contact route.

What if my child has a medical condition?

All medical conditions, injuries, allergies and support needs must be declared accurately during booking and updated if anything changes before camp starts.

Parents should provide clear instructions for any medical needs and ensure emergency contact details are correct. If we believe a player cannot safely participate, we may need to limit or decline participation until suitable arrangements are agreed.

Can staff administer medication?

Medication requirements must be declared before camp. Medication should be clearly labelled with the player's name, dosage and instructions.

Where medication support is required, this must be agreed with LSB in advance. Staff will follow the instructions provided by parents and seek medical assistance if a child becomes unwell or injured.

What if my child has a food allergy?

Please declare all allergies clearly when booking and remind the camp team on arrival if needed. Parents are responsible for providing suitable snacks and drinks for their child.

Players should not share food with others. This helps protect children with allergies and ensures every player only eats food approved by their parent or guardian.

What happens if my child is injured or becomes unwell during camp?

If a player is injured or becomes unwell during camp, the coaching team will assess the situation, provide appropriate support and contact the parent or guardian where necessary.

In an emergency, staff will seek appropriate medical assistance and contact the parent or guardian as soon as possible.

Should my child attend if they are unwell?

No. Children should not attend camp if they are unwell, have a contagious illness, or cannot safely take part in physical activity.

If your child is unable to attend due to illness, please notify LSB as soon as possible. Missed sessions are handled in line with the published Terms & Conditions.

What behaviour standards are expected?

Players are expected to listen, follow instructions, respect coaches and teammates, use appropriate language, play safely and represent themselves positively.

LSB reserves the right to remove or exclude a player who behaves in a disruptive, disrespectful or unsafe manner. Where exclusion is necessary, refunds are not normally issued.

Will photos or videos be taken at camp?

LSB may take photos or videos during sessions for training, promotional or educational purposes. If you do not want your child to appear in media, please notify LSB in writing before camp starts.

We will take reasonable steps to honour media opt-out requests, although we cannot always guarantee full exclusion from crowd shots or incidental background images.
