INTERNATIONAL CAMP FAQS

ANSWERS TO PARENTS MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED INTERNATIONAL CAMP QUESTIONS

About the Camps
What are LSB International Camps?

LSB International Camps are an extension of the LSB Camps family — residential basketball camps delivered overseas in partnership with high-profile international clubs and academies. Players live, train and compete together for the duration of the camp, combining elite coaching with the experience of travelling and playing abroad.

Camps are fully inclusive and run on a full-board basis, traditionally over six days. Each camp has its own booking page setting out the destination, dates, venue and price.

Who can attend? What ages are the camps for?

Camps are open to boys and girls aged 13 to 18 unless otherwise stated on the specific camp booking page.

International residential camps require a strong level of maturity, independence and travel readiness. For that reason, the standard advertised age range for LSB International Camps is 13–18.

Can younger players attend?

LSB International Camps are designed for players aged 13–18. Younger players are not normally accepted onto international residential camps.

In exceptional cases, LSB may consider a younger player if they are already within the LSB pathway, have suitable playing experience, and we are satisfied they are ready for the demands of international travel and residential camp life. Any exception must be agreed in writing by LSB before booking.

Will my child be scouted or selected by a club?

We don't make guarantees about selection, trials or scholarships — and we'd encourage you to be cautious of any programme that does.

What we can promise is the environment: players work directly with elite coaches from high-profile clubs who are continually looking for promising talent. Performing well in that environment is the best exposure a young player can get.

Booking & Payment
How much does a camp cost?

Prices vary by camp and are specified on the relevant camp booking page, along with the deposit amount, the payment-plan stages and the balance deadline.

When is my child's place confirmed?
No place on any camp is reserved prior to payment.

A deposit is required at the time of booking to reserve a place. Payment in full is also encouraged and accepted. Your booking is secured once the booking form is completed, the required payment has been received and we have issued written confirmation.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Most camps offer a two- or three-stage payment plan:

  • Stage 1 — deposit, paid at the time of booking;
  • Stage 2 — second instalment;
  • Stage 3 — final outstanding balance.

The instalment amounts and deadlines for each camp are set out on its booking page. The full balance must always be paid by the published deadline.

What happens if I need to cancel?

Cancellation requests must be made in writing to camps@london-basketball.com. Because international camps involve advance commitments to overseas partners, hotels and suppliers, cancellation charges apply on a sliding scale based on how far in advance you cancel — from loss of deposit, where applicable, up to 100% of the camp fee for late cancellations.

The full schedule is set out in our Booking Terms & Conditions. We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you book, so that eligible cancellation costs can be claimed from your insurer.

Accommodation & Food
Where do the players stay?

Every camp is partnered with a hotel where all players and LSB staff stay together on a full-board basis.

Rooms are normally double or triple rooms, shared by two or three players — always with one bed per player.

What food is provided?

Camps are full board. Food is provided via an open buffet serving hot and cold selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner — plenty of choice and plenty of fuel for a week of training.

My child has a dietary requirement or food allergy — can you cater for them?

Yes. Food allergies are respected and catered to, and dietary needs and requirements are catered to, to the best ability of the partner hotel.

It's essential that all allergies and dietary requirements are declared on the booking form so we can brief the hotel and our staff in advance. Please contact us before booking if your child has a complex requirement and you'd like to discuss it first.

Supervision & Safeguarding
Who looks after my child during the trip?

Every LSB International Camp travels with assigned LSB Guardians — fully DBS-checked, safeguarding-trained coaches and managers who act in loco parentis as the authorised guardians of each player for the duration of the trip.

From the moment of handover at the airport to the moment of collection, your child is in the care of the LSB Guardian team — at training, at the hotel, at meals and on excursions.

What is the adult-to-child ratio?

Adult-to-child ratios on international trips are at a maximum of 1:10 — one LSB-appointed adult for every ten players, and often better than that.

What consent forms are required?

Before departure, parents or legal guardians must complete all required LSB consent documentation. This may include medical consent, emergency treatment consent, travel consent, media consent, rooming information, dietary information and emergency contact details.

Players cannot travel unless all required consent and medical information has been completed and accepted by LSB.
What if my child needs medication or has a medical condition?

All medical conditions, medication and support requirements must be declared in full on the booking and medical-consent forms. Medication is only administered in line with the instructions you provide, and our staff will seek appropriate medical assistance — and contact you — if your child becomes unwell or injured during the trip.

Please keep us updated if anything changes between booking and departure.

What behaviour standards are expected?

All players are expected to follow the LSB Player Code of Conduct throughout the camp. This includes respecting coaches, staff, teammates, hotel staff, partner-club staff, facilities, local customs and all instructions given by the LSB Guardian team.

Serious or repeated breaches of conduct may result in a player being removed from activities or, in extreme cases, sent home early at the parent or guardian's expense. The welfare and safety of the group will always come first.

How will parents be updated during the camp?

Parents will receive updates during the camp through the communication channel confirmed before departure. This may include email updates, parent-group messages or direct contact from the LSB Guardian team where needed.

We aim to keep parents informed across the trip, particularly around arrival, daily camp activity, excursion days and return travel. If there is an urgent welfare, medical or travel issue involving your child, we will contact you directly.

Flights & Travel
Are flights included?

No — flights are booked by parents, not by LSB. This keeps the camp fee down and gives families the flexibility to choose flights, airports and fares that work for them.

Please don't book flights until we've confirmed the camp is going ahead and issued the travel guidance for that camp.
How does travel and handover work?

It works in one of two ways, and the travel guidance for each camp will confirm which applies:

  • Group travel from London. Where the LSB team flies out together from a London airport, you simply book your child onto the same flight as the group. On departure day, you bring your child to the published meeting point at the airport and hand them into the care of the LSB Guardians, who travel with the group from there.
  • Meet at the destination. For some camps, families make their own way to the destination airport, where the LSB Guardian team will be waiting at a published meeting point to receive your child on arrival.

In both cases, LSB's care of your child begins at the formal handover point and ends when they're handed back to you or your nominated adult at the agreed time and place. Exact meeting points, times and flight details are confirmed in the travel guidance for each camp.

Will there be a pre-departure briefing?

Yes. Before departure, LSB will issue camp-specific travel guidance and may hold a parent briefing or send a detailed pre-departure information pack. This will cover meeting points, flight guidance, hotel information, kit requirements, emergency contacts, supervision arrangements and any final instructions.

Does my child need travel insurance?
Yes — travel insurance is compulsory for every player.

The policy must cover the full duration of the trip and should include cover for organised basketball training and sporting activities, emergency medical treatment, repatriation, trip cancellation and personal belongings. We may ask for evidence of cover before departure. Taking out insurance as soon as you book also protects you against cancellation costs.

What about passports and visas?

Parents are responsible for ensuring their child holds a valid passport meeting the destination's validity requirements, along with any visa, travel authorisation or parental-consent documentation needed for the trip. We recommend checking the official travel guidance for the destination when you book and again before departure.

Kit, Packing & Spending Money
Is camp kit included?

Yes — kit is included at all international camps. Players just need to bring their own basketball shoes, socks and underwear to train in.

What should my child pack?

Alongside their basketball shoes and socks, players should pack:

  • a tracksuit;
  • shorts;
  • relaxing attire for downtime at the hotel;
  • sufficient underwear for the trip;
  • toiletries; and
  • one set of casual/leisure wear for the excursion day around the city.
How much spending money should my child bring?

Not much is needed — the camp is full board, so all meals are covered. Spending money should be enough to buy additional snacks on the excursion day and, if your child would like to, pick up some gifts while exploring the city.
