EUROPEAN YOUTH LEAGUE WITH LONDON ELITE

Capital City Academy players will compete in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) in the 2020/2021 season, head coach Daniel Szatkowski confirmed today.

The EYBL features teams from 30 different countries, providing high-level international competition for 16-19 year olds from all over Europe.  With globally respected powerhouses such as Lithuania, Serbia, France, Spain, Turkey and Russia (to name but a few) all represented, the league has grown to become a worldwide platform for the next generation of talented stars.

The opportunity for Academy players to compete in the EYBL has come through the  partnership with London Elite, the linked National League club to Capital City, providing progression pathways for top Academy players.

The EYBL team will be coached by Capital’s Kieran Matthews, who is already well underway with preparation planning for what will be a huge opportunity for the players but equally as challenging for London’s finest:

“Playing in the EYBL is a significant step up from what players here (in England) will be used to.  When you look at the pedigree and quality of teams like Zalgris and the other teams from Lithuania, Serbia, and all of the countries where basketball has a stronger history and popularity than us - you begin to understand the level we are stepping up to.  That being said, it’s what we asked for and what we are committed to providing for our players here.  We want our players to be tested and also get them on the international map.  I believe, with the right preparations and players we can be successful and represent London, and the UK, with pride.  I’m already assessing players who can help us do that and am excited about what lays ahead”

The EYBL schedule will run alongside the ABL schedule and be carefully organised into Academy players overall timetable of commitments this season, providing an integrated approach to the best of sports and academic provision for CCA student-athletes.

Places at the Academy are limited and selective, secured through trials held throughout the year.  To find out when the next trials are taking place and to secure your spot at an upcoming trial fill out the application form which can be found here: CAPITAL CITY PLAYER TRIAL APPLICATION
